Sequinned Dresses for the Holidays

December is the best month of the year!!! Calendars fill up with events and its finally acceptable to crank up the Christmas playlist with no shame. If you’re privy to black all times of the year, make December the month you try something different for your holiday parties. And what’s more statement making than a mini sparkly number?!! Sequins can look incredibly tacky which is sometimes good for gaudy dress up parties but today I am giving you my top recommendations when shopping for a sequinned dress:

  1. If you want to go body-con, try shooting with the dress on first. Sequinned dresses in one colour can hit the light funny and contour to your body in an unflattering way (see how the model looks like she has a belly here).
  2. When you’re shopping online, make sure you check what the dress looks like from behind first! Many of the less expensive dresses will save on the back and use a black stretchy fabric which takes away from the overall effect of the dress.
  3. Experiment with layering if you live in the cold – a black turtleneck, tights and pointed pumps could add some much needed class to this dazzling short dress (great styling example here)
