November came and went and I took a break from blogging. It wasn’t a conscious decision like last year but the post on Monday never came and neither did the one on Thursday, so I let a couple of weeks go by as I finished out my final semester of part time study and full time work. I usually return to blogging with a renewed sense of rigour and excitement but sadly I don’t feel the spark this time … in fact I really dragged out the posting of these photos. I usually take my photos, edit them on the day and will start drafting up the post the next day but here we are a whole week later and I am feeling pretty bleh about the whole process. I usually refrain from posting when I feel like this but I’m going to just try and put this post up in hopes that I will push through this lull and it will only be a spring fling.
I think I have become disenchanted with blogging – I think I knew it deep down in my year three post but I didn’t want to admit it then because of the significance of my anniversary and it was only after taking this month long break did I realise how nice it was to not worry about shooting outfits and engaging with Instagram. I think my biggest roadblock right now is Instagram itself so I am thinking of doing a full unfollow spree and getting rid of all the unnecessary noise in my feed. Unfortunately, Instagram doesn’t feel like an organic platform anymore but it is also sometimes the only platform brands look at if they consider working with you so my Instagram will purely be a marketing tool to drive traffic back to here where I get ultimate creative control.
This leads me to the question of what the future of Style Smorgasbord will look like? I will be studying abroad in the first half of 2018 which I think will be a nice change of scenery, however since I will be essentially living out of my suitcase, there will only be so many outfits I can create haha! I would like to work on writing and photography and am keen to get behind the camera more and document my trip here.
Phewfh. That was a long-winded post, I appreciate you coming on here to read this even if it was a skim. I just need to clear my head a bit and hope the creative juices return ASAP. I guess I should also speak briefly about my dress – this is my favourite dress this spring, I love the seersucker and all the details – eyelet, ruffles and open back.
