Waikiki Beachwalk // Wearing your Kimono as a Scarf

Not too long ago, kimonos were all the rage. I was sent this kimono during my first year of blogging and having only worn it a handful of times (including at this beautiful beach), I decided to bring it with me as a beach coverup on our holiday. At the end of the trip, I never ended up wearing it as anything but a scarf to jazz up this outfit whilst on a walk along the Waikiki beach, watching the sunset and heading over to dinner. It works well, doesn’t it? The fringing on the kimono looks like any other tassel on a summer scarf and the pattern is perfect for vacation. Kimonos traditionally have a boxy shape, much like a square scarf so you can easily triangle fold them and loop them around your neck from behind. Do you still have a kimono from the summer of ’14 that could work as a scarf? This isn’t the first time, I’ve reworked a kimono, in fact here’s an outfit where I’ve fashioned it into a top! Happy Thursday guys! What are your weekend plans? This is the first weekend in three months where I’ve had to *consider* doing uni work, emphasis on the consider 😉 so I’m dreading it a bit 🙁

Wearing: Dotti scalloped tank (sold out, very similar here) / Forever 21 Skirt (old – I personally think this sea foam colour is a bit dated but you can find a similar one here, alternatively I would go with a metallic one like this), Oscar Wylee sunglasses / Kimono (c/o, similar kimonos here or scarf here) / Valleygirl ‘do not disturb hat’ (similar version here) / Longchamp Pliage (old, great updated blue here) / Adidas Superstars / Rumba Time watch (c/o) / Oscar Wylee Sunglasses //

I’m all about functional clothing, so this is right up my alley. I love that you made use of a wardrobe piece in such a way. Not to mention something from years ago. Thanks for sharing your tip with us love!

The kimono really worked well as a scarf. I wouldn’t have guessed it was a kimono if you didn’t mention it haha
