When we were in Hawaii, we spent one of our days exploring Downtown Honolulu. The first place we discovered was the Alexander and Baldwin building built in 1929. It has beautiful sea themed murals and a unique fusion of eastern and western design elements that features a double-pitched hipped tile roof, a fourth floor lanai, water buffalo heads above the first-floor windows, and a matte glazed terra cotta exterior. Across from that building was the Gillingham Transportation Building which was built in the same year and has a swoon-worthy Art Deco lobby. Finally, we stopped by the Banyan trees which is actually where they filmed Avatar! Its a really small collection of trees but they put a green screen around the whole area for filming – ah the magic of movies!
When I’m on holidays, I need to be super comfy, there’s nothing worse than walking hours on end with blisters on your feet in the sweltering heat. My Adidas Superstars and basic white tee were a no brainer of course but I dressed it up with this beautiful summer tweed skirt from Marcs and a cheeky Eugenia Kim inspired slogan hat. I was quite disappointed to hear, earlier this month that the head company of Marcs was going into voluntary administration. I’m a big fan of their bright, bold designs and it would be such a shame to see another 2 Australian brands exit the market.
